The Originals
The original Easter Boxes were made as a way for a Jew (me) to celebrate Easter with my colleagues the way I saw fit.
Seeing as I was (still am) a technology journalist that also reviewed video games, I thought it made sense if I handcrafted some game-inspired boxes and filled them up with chocolates.
Mario was – at the time – the most logical choice for game inspired boxes because I could fill them up with coins. Similar to the boxes Mario bounced up on to get coins out of, I painted my boxes in gold with black lines complete with the question mark you see in the game.
I also was a fan of Portal so made two Companion Cubes and gave one to one of the Portal-fanatics I was working with at CyberShack and left one for myself.
My work was referenced at Kotaku.
